In the county junior quarter finals, we defeated Shrule/Glencorrib by 1 point on a scorline of 1.11 to 1.10. In a dramatic finish, the winning point was scored by Fionnan Burke from a free in the third minute of stoppage time after Liam Lydon was fouled. Time was up and there was no time for Shrule/Glencorrib to try and equalise.
It had looked for a while that we would win this game by a few points but this changed when substitute Evan Cawley, in the 60th minute, goaled for Shrule/Glencorrib and tied the game at 1.10 apiece. However our players showed great character and didn’t let this affect us. They drove up the field and when Liam Lydon got the ball, he headed for goal and was fouled leaving Fionnan to put the ball between the posts and close out the game.
Its worth noting that all but one of our teams scores came from play and the example was set by man-of-the-math Paul Kelly, who scored 1-0-2 from play. Our other scorers were Tommy Keegan 0-0-2, Fionnan Burke 0-0-0, Jordan Henry, Conor Mallee, Stephen McDonnell, Jack Niland and Oisin Mulderrig 1 point each.
