John Regan R.I.P.

Everyone in Kiltimagh GAA Club wishes to express their sincere sympathy to the Regan family on the sad passing of our former Club President John Regan, Bohola Road.

John was a passionate supporter of Kiltimagh GAA and Mayo GAA. Since John returned from London to Kiltimagh in 1978 he has been a regular attendee at Kiltimagh GAA games men’s and ladies at all age groups. Whenever one of those teams emerged victorious he would contribute to the dressing room celebrations with a rousing rendition of The Town of Kiltimagh.

For a man whose sole means of transport was his bicycle, his resourcefulness, and outgoing personality ensured that he attended Mayo matches all over the country from Derry to Kerry. He thought nothing of thumbing a lift to Tuam, Sligo, Longford and on one occasion to Croke Park to cheer on whatever Mayo team was playing. He attended men’s, ladies, adult, underage, football or hurling, championship or league to support his beloved green and red.

In recent years he was a regular passenger on the match day coach to Mayo matches. It was very fitting that his last visit to Gilmartin Park was to welcome the Sam Maguire to Kiltimagh with the Mayo All Ireland winning team. This was a day that John had waited all his life for and thankfully he got to see a Mayo Captain lift the Sam Maguire.

His loss will truly be felt not only by his brother Tommy and sister Katherina but also by the entire Kiltimagh community of which he was a much loved member and his many friends all over Mayo and further afield.

Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
